Australian Government Department of Parliamentary Services
Manufacture and repair of Australian flags
Details
Description
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is the principal support agency for the operations of Parliament House. As well as its responsibility for the building, the department provides protective security services, Hansard and broadcasting services for the Parliament, facilities management and visitor services as well as ICT, library and research services to members of Parliament, parliamentary committees and other building occupants.
DPS's responsibilities extend to the operation and maintenance of the 80-metre flagpole which adorns the building, including flag rotation and flag protocol associated with ceremonial events. The flags are rotated on a monthly basis to allow uniform wear across all flags and to enable close-up inspections to be undertaken. DPS wishes to engage a suitably qualified organisation to manufacture and fill an inital order of ten Australian flags of 12.8 metres x 6.4 metres in size, to supply approximately two replacement flags in each subsequent year of the contract, and to maintain and repair the flags.
