Department of Health National Cancer Screening Register

The Department of Health is seeking one vendor to create a robust IT solution based support system for the expanded National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, the renewed National Cervical Screening Program, and potentially future cancer screening programmes.

In the 2015-16 Budget, the Australian Government committed funding to implement a renewed National Cervical Screening Program, supported by a National Cancer Screening Register (the Register), by May 2017. The establishment of the Register also provides an opportunity to more efficiently deliver the 2014-15 Budget measure to implement biennial bowel screening for all Australians aged 50 to 74 by 2020.

In order to effectively deliver the two Budget measures, the Department is seeking robust, dynamic and innovative commercial solutions capable of providing services on a fully managed basis, including the provision of an ICT capability (the Register), and the operational and support services required to transition to and deliver the services underpinning Commonwealth, state and territory cancer screening programmes (the Operator Services), in order to meet specific outcomes.

The Register and Operator Services will support the National Cervical and Bowel Cancer Screening Programs. More information on these programmes is available at www.cancerscreening.gov.au.

The Register features include a single participant record, streamlined reporting and the leveraging and re-use of the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record system and eHealth foundation systems to enable participants and health professionals to provide, update and receive information.
