Australian Government Department of Defence
Graduate Program in Scientific Leadership (GPSL)
Details
Description
The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), a Group within the Department of Defence, employs a large number of professional, technical and administrative staff, many of whom are required to manage elements of the organisation. Recruitment programs ensure that DSTO has a continual influx of high calibre, technically competent, young recruits; however, these recruits do not necessarily possess management and leadership expertise.
DSTO therefore recognizes that it needs to provide this type of training for staff as they take on significant management responsibilities. Since 1996 this has occurred through the provision of a formal management education program, the Graduate Program in Scientific Leadership (GPSL). To date this Program has been facilitated by tertiary institutions and graduates of the Program have attained a post-graduate certificate of management qualification.
DSTO supports the continuation of the GPSL and is seeking proposals from appropriate institutions that meet the requirements of the next phase of the Program. It is anticipated that DSTO will contract the institution considered most suitable to provide GPSL courses from 2009 - 2012, with the option to extend the contract for a further period of 12 months.
