Description
The Disability Services Commission (the Commission) is currently exploring options for the provision of a service to provide people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in physical activity programs, including sport, exercise and active recreational activities within community based, inclusive settings. The aim is to improve healthy lifestyle opportunities for people with intellectual disability in order to reduce the risk of developing chronic health conditions and to provide opportunities for non disability specific organisations to become inclusive. To inform this process the Commission is seeking to engage a consultant to complete a review of current recreational supports and services. To provide a report which outlines how to improve capacity building to traditional community recreational programs by offering consultancy services to assist in the inclusion process, it is hoped that this exercise can be completed by the end of April 2013
