Description

From this Request the Forest Products Commission is seeking a suitably qualified, equipped and experienced contractor to provide Collection and Processing of Sandalwood Residue Services.

The processing of sandalwood requires all bark to be removed. This usually results in large heaps of bark at remote locations where sandalwood has been harvested and processed at sites located within two Sandalwood Supply Areas (refer to Appendix C). Typically, the bark and residue produced from the action of separating the bark from the sandalwood tree is pushed into heaps ranging from 30 – 50 tonnes in size. The bark heaps contain pieces of sandalwood with some commercial value. The purpose of Residue Processing is to extract sandalwood pieces from the bark heaps that meet the specification for dead butts, logs and branches, as outlined in Contractor Procedure 804. Approximately 30 – 50% of the bark heap will yield sandalwood residue products. The extracted, screened and clean residue must be packed in bags provided by the Commission.
