Provision of Geotechnical Services - Proposed Connors to Moranbah Pipeline and Moranbah to Galilee Pipeline

SunWater is seeking to engage a Consultant to undertake a combined geological and geotechnical investigation along the proposed Connors to Moranbah Pipeline (CMP) and the Moranbah to Galilee Pipeline (MGP). The CMP extends from the proposed Connors River Dam to Moranbah in a westerly direction terminating in Moranbah, in the Central Highlands. The MGP extends from Moranbah in a south-westerly direction terminating near Alpha. The pipeline alignment of the CMP has been virtually finalised. The alignment for the MGP is yet to be finalised, however, it is anticipated that a preliminary route will be finalised on the 4th October 2010, when this occurs the alignment of the MGP will be provided to the Consultant.

The purpose of the proposed investigations is to determine the nature of the material which will be encountered during trench excavation and locate sources of construction material. More specifically this includes assessment of:
• the excavation characteristics,
• the strength and stability of the surrounding material,
• the corrosivity of surround material to steel and concrete,
• the need for material from the trench excavation to be screened / selected before being used as trench backfill,
• potential sources of clean gravelly sand with non-plastic fines for pipe embedment, and
• potential sources of gravel for hardstands and access roads.
