Description

Geoscience Australia is seeking tenders for the provision of remote Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) telecommunication services.

Geoscience Australia operates and maintains an array of Earth monitoring sensors located across Australia, Antarctica and the Pacific. The data streams from these sensors are used by Science and Industry for the detection of earthquakes and tsunamis, the measurement of the Earth's geomagnetic field, the monitoring of the Australian tectonic plate and the provision of precise position.

Currently 80 of these sensors (refer ATM document for locations) rely on VSAT telecommunication services to communicate these critical and time sensitive data to processing centres in Canberra (Geoscience Australia) and Melbourne (Bureau of Meteorology). The number of sensors relying on VSAT services is expected to increase over the course of this contract
