Description

Whyalla is situated on the upper Spencer Gulf of South Australia and has a population of approximately 21,000 people.

A social profile can be defined as a comprehensive description of the needs of a population that is defined as a community, and the resources that exist within that community. This is undertaken with the active involvement of the community itself, for the purpose of developing an action plan or other means of improving the quality of life in the community. A social profile is a critical tool in determining the future direction of the community and in providing accurate determination of the gaps in services that may exist. A profile assists in developing a long-term plan for community development purposes.

Researchers will work closely with the executive reference group, local government and community to develop a social profile of the community. The end result of the social research project will be a document which clearly reflects a historic perspective of the community, the current position of the community and provide information which can be used for the development of the community over the next five year period.
