Description

The population of Whyalla is around 22,000. There are currently 11,185 borrowers registered with the Library.

At present the Library uses the Dynix Library Mgement system, supported in by Dynix .

The Whyalla Public Library operates across two branches (Civic and Alex Ramsay Libraries) with a total of 9 staff PCs, and 11 public access PCs which currently offer access to the Internet, software programs such as Word, or OPAC access. The Library is open Tuesdays to Sundays at present.

There is the possibility that the two branches of the Library will be combined into a single branch at a third, new location sometime within twelve months, at which time the Library will open across 7 days.

The current Library system is hosted on a Windows Server 2003 server based in Council’s , diagonally opposite the Civic Library. Network traffic to and from both branches to the travels over a wireless based WAN.

The combined book stock of both branches is currently 49,376 and annual loans 152,066.

The new library mgement system will be extremely flexible in its compatibility with other systems and networks. It shall evolve pro-actively in line with future developments in systems mgement and library trends.
