Development of a Model and Conduct of Technical Field Study to Support the Development of the Kimberley Aquaculture Zone

Description

The Department is seeking environmental modelling services in support of a strategic environmental assessment for an aquaculture zone in Cone Bay, located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

The environmental modelling can effectively be divided into two tasks, hydrodynamic modelling and ecological modelling, described in sections below. The two tasks, however, are inherently linked and from a technical point of view, the models are required to be coupled. This shall enable the use of hydrodynamic information to predict the fate of solutes and particles and to assess potential impacts of nutrient enrichment on benthic primary producers and dissolved oxygen levels.

The carrying-capacity of the aquaculture zone is expected to support the production of 20,000 tonnes of finfish per year and the environmental modelling is required to provide support for this or to identify an alternative carrying-capacity.
