Description
The opportunity exists for the purchase and redevelopment of a prominent 1.1ha site and buildings close to the central business district in Launceston, Northern Tasmania. The site includes one major and one minor building with a floor area of about 14,130sqm over five levels. It was the site of the Launceston General Hospital prior to the construction of a new complex on the western side of Charles Street. The old Launceston General Hospital is a substantial and impressive example of 1930s streamline architecture with a northerly aspect overlooking central Launceston and its northern suburbs and beyond to the Tamar River. It offers significant opportunities for redevelopment and use for tourism, cultural, recreational, educational, commercial and/or residential purposes (subject to council approval). The site is a 10 minute walk from Launceston's central business district and is part of the growing and vibrant inner city restaurant and café culture of Charles Street.
