Description
Council commissioned the Kangaroo Island Coastal Hazard Strategy (2018) and a Bushfire
Protection and Mitigation Strategy (2021). As part of the Resilient Hills and Coast
consortium, Council developed the Climate Change Adaption Plan for the Adelaide Hills,
Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island Region to better understand our vulnerability and
exposure to hazards.
The purpose of these strategies and plan is to engage our community, communicate risk,
and promote local action. Our next step is to look at the broad impacts on our built
environment and asset management to reduce our vulnerability and exposure to hazards.
A whole-of-Island Action Plan based on the recommendations of the Royal Commission
Report, SA Review and Council’s Commissioned strategies and plans will provide our
Council, our partner agencies and our community with a single source of truth by which to
make future decisions and investment to mitigate our risk to natural disasters.
