Australian Government Department of the Treasury
Centre for International Finance and Regulation
Details
Description
The focus of the Centre will be to put Australia at the forefront of regional and global examination of financial sector developments and the design of regulatory responses to these developments.
The key attributes of the Centre will be:
- A domestic/regional/global focus on financial market developments and their impact on global financial stability.
- An economic focus on encouraging well functioning markets that underpin strong, sustainable economic growth and enhanced living standards. This would encompass a robust, competitive and dynamic financial system that promotes macroeconomic stability and market confidence.
- A regulatory focus that would look at the design and implementation of regulatory standards to ensure that they eliminate excessive risk-taking in the financial system but do not inhibit the functionality of, and innovation in, markets.
- Regional engagement focussing on regional financial stability and developments.
The Centre will provide opportunities for research into developments in the global financial sector and into best practice financial regulation and to deliver post-graduate education and training for financial regulators from Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
