Grains Research and Development Corporation
Predicting nitrogen cycling and losses in Australian cropping systems - augmenting measurements to enhance modelling.
Details
Description
A comprehensive data set of nitrogen (N) balance and cycling with explicit measurement of loss pathways is required to address key gaps for the most important soil types and farming systems across Australia's grain growing areas. Modelling capacity in APSIM NextGen to predict N balance, cycling and loss pathways will be validated or revised with discernible improvements of simulations against experimental data in key grain production systems. A peer-reviewed technical report will summarise N cycling data and N loss mechanisms in the context of measurements collected by this investment and previous work, and the likely impact of these losses on environments across the major soil types and cropping systems of Australia.
