Details
Description
The National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) is an independent Commonwealth statutory scheme established to aid in the protection of people at work, the public and the environment from the harmful effects of industrial chemicals, through the mandatory notification and assessment of these chemicals. NICNAS assesses all new industrial chemicals that are entering Australia for the first time, and industrial chemicals that are already in use in Australia (i.e. existing chemicals) on a priority basis. To aid in the safe and sustainable use of chemicals, it is important that the health and environmental effects of chemicals are evaluated and that sufficient information about them is widely available.
All agencies in the Health and Ageing Portfolio of the Australian Government will have access to this panel arrangement.
