Australian School Students Alcohol and Drug Survey (WA Component)

The Australian School Students Alcohol and Drug (ASSAD) survey (Western Australian component) is due to be conducted in 2014. Survey administration and collection from approximately 3500-4000 school students throughout Western Australia is the key service sought through this Request for Quote.

The survey methodology, questionnaire development, data cleaning and analysis will be co-ordinated and undertaken by the Western Australian Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO).

This survey is the eleventh in a triennial series, collecting national data on the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use among students aged 12-17 in government, Catholic and independent schools.
The primary aims of the ASSAD survey are to:
i.) obtain up-to-date estimates of the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use;
ii.) measure changes in the prevalence of licit and illicit drug use over time;
iii.) assess attitudes towards drinking, smoking and illicit drug use;
iv.) examine the impact of policies and programs on school students’ attitudes, intentions and behaviours in relations to alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use.

Project management of the Western Australian 2014 survey is coordinated by the DAO. The survey approach is developed by the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer (CBRC) of The Cancer Council Victoria and is funded nationally by the Commonwealth Department of Health, State Health Departments and State Cancer Councils.

For the 2014 survey, a target of 50 Western Australian schools (29 government; 11 independent and 10 Catholic schools) will be sought for participation. This will be approximately 3500-4000 students. The number of schools and students are targets to meet methodological requirements for a stratified sample based on location and school type.

To achieve this the DAO is seeking the services of a suitably qualified and experienced Respondent to undertake the Western Australian component of the 2014 ASSAD Survey.
