Description
The Department of Water (DoW) has been allocated funding under the Royalties for Regions initiative to undertake a groundwater investigation in the West Canning Basin – Sandfire (WCB). The drilling programme will install five (5) shallow groundwater monitoring bores, six (6) deep monitoring bores and one (1) production bore at a total of seven (7) sites, commencing April 2014. All shallow monitoring bores will be installed in the non-artesian Broome Sandstone aquifer. All deep monitoring bores will be installed in the Wallal Sandstone aquifer, which is anticipated to be (sub)artesian in the northern part of the project area and unconfined in the southern part of the project area. The drilling and construction of these bores contributes to a regional investigation in an area of limited data, therefore exact drilling depths are unknown. Estimated drilling depths (based on existing information) range from 40m to 80m for the shallow observation bores, 200m to 270m for the deep observation bores and 309m for the production bore.
