The National Gallery grounds encompass the sculpture garden and the Australian garden. These gardens feature almost 30 works of art by prominent sculptors including James Turrell’s stupa-form Skyspace and Fujiko Nakaya’s immersive fog sculpture.
The original lakeside sculpture garden is Commonwealth heritage-listed and is considered one of the world’s finest examples of an outdoor sculpture gallery. The overall gallery grounds are also part of the wider high court of Australia / National Gallery of Australia heritage precinct.
