Herston Biofabrication Institute - Principal Contractor

Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS), in collaboration with academic, research, industry, and government partners are pursuing the development of the Herston Biofabrication Institute to accelerate the convergence of biofabrication technology innovation and biological systems knowledge and realise the transformational opportunities presented by the emerging and dynamic field of biofabrication.

The Institute will bring together clinicians, scientists, researchers and engineers on one of the largest integrated health, teaching and research precincts in Australia to focus on developing next generation fabrication technologies combined with biological systems.

The Project purpose is to fit-out the entire Level 12 of Block 7 to create the Herston Biofabrication Institute. The Project is a high priority for Metro North, and the Institute is to be delivered in the shortest possible timeframe.

The scope is fully defined in the design drawings and specifications included in the tender package. Nothing in this clause shall limit, modify or alter the extent or description of the Works as set out in detail elsewhere in the contract documents. Subject to the foregoing, the Works generally comprise:

• Removal of topping slab from a large portion of the floor plate;
• Minor demolition works not completed as part of the early works package;
• Comprehensive high-end fit out of the floor including:
  • Partitions/Glazing;
  • Floor, wall and ceiling finishes;
  • Fixed joinery;
  • Loose furniture.
• Complex and comprehensive mechanical installation (including specialist exhaust systems reticulated up to Level 16 plant room and exhausted above building) as documented;
• Medical and other gas installation as documented;
• Significant electrical installation works (power, comms, lighting etc.) as documented;
• Moderate hydraulics works as documented;
• Comprehensive dry/wet fire works (including a gas suppression system) as documented.
