WA Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage
Fremantle Prison Guard Post & Wall Conservation Works
Details
Description
Fremantle Prison’s limestone perimeter walls are an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Fremantle Prison. The perimeter walls provide evidence of the security features of the Prison and are an important element in the landmark quality of the Prison within its surroundings. The walls have recognized Outstanding Universal Values for their association with the Convict System and Eighteenth-Century philosophies of punishment. The prison guard towers (watch towers) are also a significant element of the perimeter walls, and contribute to the understanding of the original use of the place, although the extant fabric does not date to the convict period.
The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (the Department) is seeking tenders from suitably qualified and experienced Tenderer to complete remediation and conservation works on the guard towers and perimeter walls.
