Purchase of Forensic Science Service (FSST) Analytical Equipment

The Agilent Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer will enable Forensic Science Service Tasmania (FSST) to increase its capacity to analyse coronial toxicology samples and undertake the expanding workload for drugs in drivers. The Applied Biosystems Genetic Analyser and Thermal Cyclers will provide for increased analytical capacity, enable enhanced separation of sensitive crime scene and person samples, to ensure continuity of service, with timely results. The Applied Biosystems Genetic Analyser and Thermal Cyclers are available only from Biosciences Pty Ltd. This brand of equipment is installed in all State Forensic Science laboratories. Use of the same brand of equipment and reagents by State Forensic Laboratories assists in providing consistent information which is important in the effective utilisation of a National Criminal Identification DNA Database, interoperability is also available if required.
