Description
A desk-top survey is required to assess the populations and trends of key ecological groups as indicators of marine ecosystem health. For each of the five major marine bioregions, it is proposed to review available data and knowledge on selected species/groups of herbivorous fish, primary and secondary predatory fish, and large crustaceans and molluscs that are wholly or predominately endemic to Australian waters. The species may include both harvested and non-harvested species depending on relevant data availability. The outputs would provide a synopsis of the status of each species/population investigated, major trends and any priority gaps in data and knowledge. The results of the survey may be used at the marine workshops planned for March-April 2011 to support the assessment of the condition of Australia’s marine ecosystem and to support the 2011 Australia State of the Environment (SoE) Report. The final synthesis report may be published online as a SoE supplementary product.
