Description

The Department of Health and Ageing is seeking tenders from suitably qualified consultants to undertake an evidence based review of the extended Medicare safety net (EMSN).

The successful tenderer will undertake a review of the operation, effectiveness and implications of the extended Medicare safety net as required under Section 4 of the Health Legislation Amendment (Medicare) Act 2004. The review will involve a comprehensive examination of the operational aspects of the EMSN, the extent to which the EMSN has achieved its purpose of making medical services more affordable for Australians and an analysis of any changes in billing and patient access to Medicare services that are a result of the introduction of the EMSN.

The consultant will be required to produce a report of their findings, which will be tabled in both houses of Parliament.

In order to conduct the review, the successful tenderer will require a comprehensive understanding of Australia’s health system, and of the Medicare system in particular.
