Description
The need is to support SAPOL’s new email system, which is currently being built. SAPOL’s email is currently provided via the Messaging and Business Communication Service (MBCS) Whole of Government contract, which was due to expire in August 2021, but has recently been extended to expire in August 2022. Upon expiry of the contract, the SA Government email system will move to a new platform (Office365) and will be provided under a new support arrangement provided by DPC.
When notified of the change in email system during 2020, SAPOL engaged an independent consultant to review the new proposed SA Government email system. This consultant recommended that SAPOL move to its own separate email system. This recommendation was made for a number of reasons, mainly centering on data security and SAPOL’s ability to operate autonomously. Since this recommendation, SAPOL has been granted an exemption from participating in the new Whole of Government email solution.
