Corangamite Catchment Management Authority
PROVISION OF SERVICES FOR AVULSION RESTORATION CONSTRUCTION
Details
Description
The West Barwon River deviated from its primary course in January 2023. The resulting channel ‘avulsion’ consequently directed the flows from the West Barwon River into an adjoining daughter channel effectively de-watering an extensive reach of the West Barwon River and causing localized flooding along the daughter channel flow path.
A set of detailed designs for the remediation of this site are included within the tender package specifications. This includes the restoration of the avulsion point and 'at risk' sections immediatley downstream. The specific work includes earthworks and and rock armouring of banks to stabilise the flow path. This also includes grade control through the construction of a rock chute.
Complimentary willow tree removal works within the Barwon River up and downstream of the avulsion site will be required to improve channel capacity and reduce the risk of a future channel avulsion.
