Description

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) and the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC), in collaboration with the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC), are looking to develop markets for biomass as a fuel for combined heat and power and trigeneration in the southwest of WA. The biomass will be produced from various sources, including thinning of pine plantations and harvesting of purpose grown mallee energy crops. Co-firing of suitable onsite waste materials are also expected to be considered as a supplement to woody feedstock.
The project partners are focussing on the regional manufacturing sector and aiming to develop a pilot project, which would involve conducting an engineering assessment of a meat processing facility to prepare a conceptual design for a combined heat and power system (CHP) or trigeneration system based upon biomass fuel. The principal objective will be to reduce energy costs for the facility.
The project partners are calling for proposals, including a price quotation, for an engineering consultancy to analyse the mass and energy flows within the selected facility and then recommend alternative courses of action for development of a new energy system based primarily upon a biomass fired boiler.
