PROJECT BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:

The relocation of the Gold Coast Show to the Gold Coast Turf Club precinct is a Queensland State Government funded project being delivered by the Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and Commonwealth Games (DTESB).

The Gold Coast Turf Club (GCTC) is the funding applicant and will operate in a role as the Principal for delivery of the project. The Gold Coast Show Society (GCSS) is the primary stakeholder for the project.

The redevelopment of the Gold Coast Turf Club precinct to facilitate for the relocation of the Gold Coast Show includes the following main components:

  • Design and construction of a 2500m2 Exhibition Hall,
  • Construction of electrical, lighting and hydraulic infrastructure services for the GCTC car park areas to facilitate Gold Coast Show sideshow alley and facilities,
  • Construction of a Woodchop arena,
  • Construction of a new maintenance shed, office and lunch room for the GCTC,
  • Renovation of the old maintenance shed and addition of an extra roof awning for the provision of an animal exhibition area,
  • Construction of a Show Ring inside the GCTC race course,
  • Upgrade the existing car park stormwater system, fill existing swale drains and re surface the car parks.

The Gold Coast Show is scheduled for the 29, 30 and 31 August 2014. It is critical that the infrastructure required to support and facilitate the Show is completed prior to the Show and any other exhibitions that may be schedule in June / July 2014.

The Gold Coast Turf Club has engaged a number of consultants to provide town planning services, design documentation for electrical, hydraulic and civil infrastructure and preliminary design for the exhibition hall.

Urban Planning Services has been engaged to provide town planning services. Their scope is to deliver planning approvals for the project and provide town planning assistance where required. In summary they will deliver the following; Self Assessable Town Planning Reports for the Exhibition Hall ( complete and included in this document) and Maintenance Shed, Operational Work Approval for the Electrical, Lighting and Hydraulic Infrastructure.

Webb Australia has been engaged to design the electrical and lighting infrastructure and coordinate with Energex.

Beavis Cochrane Maxwell has been engaged to design the water and sewer infrastructure for the showgrounds and obtain plumbing approval for these works. Hydraulic design for the exhibition hall is not included in their scope.

Cardno has been engaged to provide stormwater, earthworks, and civil design for the showground areas. Their scope includes flood modelling, hydraulic report and operational work approval specific to the showground areas.

Populous has been engaged on this project since early 2013. They provided early master planning services and now have been engaged to provide preliminary design drawings for the exhibition hall.
