Feasibility Study for Premium Ecotourism Products on Whitsunday Island
Details
Description
The Queensland Government, through the Department of Environment and Science, is seeking the development of a feasibility study and detailed consultation report for premium ecotourism products on Whitsunday Island. These products, which may include facilities and experiences, will be delivered as part of the $5 million election commitment, however resort styles, such as a hotel property that provides a range of amenities, including entertainment and recreational activities will not be considered.
Premium ecotourism experiences seek to:
• Showcase Queensland’s natural and cultural values
• Deliver ecologically and economically sustainable experiences that are low impact
• Create local employment prospects, including opportunities for Traditional Owners
• Provide economic benefit for communities and existing tourism operators; and
• Facilitate ecotourism, recreation, education and heritage experiences
A public document outlining the key results of the feasibility study, and recommended options and plans for moving forward will also be required.
