Description
In a continuation of the services provided under contract PTA240582 in relation to the B-Series trains, the MEL Project now requires the provision of C-Series train simulations. In addition, PTA requires a literature review to substantiate the derailment modelling methodology utilised for all work in relation to the B and C Series trains. The review will help PTA to understand when/why other operators and RIMs implement derailment containment. Currently there is no mitigations in place to prevent the vehicle from falling if a derailment was to eventuate at a critical location. PTA are therefore considering the introduction of some form of derailment containment. PTA therefore requires a quantitative assessment to calculate the likelihood of derailment to assist with a decision on whether a derailment containment should be considered. The aim of this requirement is to estimate the derailment likelihood of the C-Series 3-car set as it negotiates the critical track location using railway dynamics multibody simulation software.
