Many large businesses around the world are setting targets to reduce emissions, which will require small businesses in their supply chains to be actively monitoring and addressing their carbon footprint, alongside other social impacts such as employee welfare.

Adopting environmentally sustainable practices benefits business owners in numerous ways, including attracting new customers who are seeking environmentally friendly products and services and the attraction and retention of staff and business partners. Cost benefits can include savings from becoming more energy and water efficient, avoiding, and reducing waste. There is an increasing awareness within small businesses of the need to be more environmentally and socially conscious.

The Small Business Sustainability Support Program (Program) will assist South Australian small businesses develop strategies to improve their environmental sustainability and build skills and capability to implement sustainable business practices. It will also build skills and capability to implement environmental, social and governance (ESG), net zero, circular economy and other sustainable business practices.

The Program consists of two (2) stages that are of interest to this procurement and ultimately make up the key deliverables:

  • Stage 1 - Group education and awareness raising to build knowledge and capability in sustainability through delivering up to 18 workshops in metropolitan and regional locations.
  • Stage 2 - Business sustainability assessments.
