Description
The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) - Information Communication Technologies (ICT) works with partners to develop and implement e-business systems and services to support business units of the DTWD, publicly managed Training Organisations and other key stakeholders in Western Australia.
The Infrastructure and Operations area within ICT is responsible for designing, developing, implementation, management and supporting the technical infrastructure utilised to deliver services to the Western Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. It ensures that the strategic and business-based needs of DTWD and publicly managed Training Organisations are catered for and supported, and transformed into practical technology solutions that will deliver real benefits.
The current technical environment consists of leading edge technology with hardware including, Cisco UCS 5108 Chassis, UCS B200 M2 servers, Nexus 7010, 5000, 2000, 1000, MDS 9148, ASA 5585, NetApp V3240, FAS 2240. This equipment is housed within our remote primary and secondary data centres.
DTWD’s software environment consists of VMware vSphere 4/5 Enterprise Plus, Operations Management Suite, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 DC edition and Linux variants. There is a mix of applications including Microsoft CRM Dynamics, SharePoint Server and a number of in house developed applications to support the Western Australian VET sector.
The Infrastructure and Operations team makes use of best practice in the flexible and agile utilisation of technology to provide cost effective ICT services that meet the required need of the Training Sector of Western Australia. Defined processes and procedures based on ITIL, MSP and Prince2 methodologies are utilised to manage the DTWD ICT environment including incident, problem and change management along with application deployment processes.

DTWD ICT requires the provision of Database Administration Services for the DTWD ICT Infrastructure and Operations unit. DTWD is seeking proactive companies that maintain knowledge and skills relating to current and emerging technologies.
The contracted service will need to provide Database Administration services, capable of providing resources with at least five (5) years experience in customer centric product and service support capabilities. Ensure the establishment and ongoing operation, efficiency and maintenance of all DTWD database server services through the application of best practice processes and procedures. To address this overarching requirement, the contractors under the direction of the Operations Manager will be required to:
• Apply best practice database management techniques and methods to achieve optimal use of the database/s;
• Take operational responsibility for implementing data remediation and data migration solutions;
• Take operational responsibility for the systems administration and database support of the Departments EmpowerHR System;
• Ensure the ongoing operation, efficiency and maintenance of databases through appropriate documentation standards and procedures;
• Participate in system and user acceptance testing activities as required;
• Deploy database upgrades and implement patches and data fixes as required in line with DTWD ICT processes and policies with regard to change management and general support.
Any proposed resource will need to have at least five (5) years experience in Database Administration Services. Experience with UNIX/Ingres RDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 is essential. In addition, experience with or the proven capacity to support a large multi-tenancy EmpowerHR database environment is required. DTWD currently supports over 100 databases and the systems that use these databases vary in size and complexity. The service provider will be required to demonstrate their capacity to provide the service through their service offering and their capacity to ensure continuity of the service.
Additional Information
It is anticipated that these services will be required for up to 40 hours per week over the duration of the contract and may require additional specialist services as required. Normal operating hours are between 8:00am to 6:00pm, however there may be times when for operational needs, work will be required outside of these hours.
