The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) operates the Australian ground segment of the Cospas-Sarsat distress beacon detection system. Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) operates the New Zealand ground segment of the same system. With the introduction of the Medium-Altitude Earth Orbit SAR (MEOSAR) satellite system in the Cospas-Sarsat system, AMSA and MNZ are conducting a joint tender to provide MEOSAR capability for the Australian and New Zealand search and rescue regions.
