QLD Department of Environment and Resource Management
Security Tags for the Kangaroo Harvest Periods
Details
Description
Under the Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvesting) Conservation Plan 2005, Macropod’s are harvested annually within quotas set by the Commonwealth Government. Harvest is limited to three (3) species of common macropods, the Eastern Grey, Red Kangaroo and Common Wallaroo. Harvesting occurs in three (3) harvest zones or regions throughout the state.
From January 1, 2010, tags have been printed for each specific species in the eastern, central and western zones. Under the new arrangements, the number of tags available must not exceed the quota amount for each species in each zone. The tags are placed in the skin by shooters and must remain in place during handling, freezing, transportation, salt tumbling and storage.
DERM is seeking offers from interested parties to enter into an Arrangement for the Supply and Delivery of at least 1,000,000 and up to 2,500,000 individual plastic tags per annum to be used for the above mentioned purpose. Tags are only to be used once.
The total number of tags to be supplied, within the range detailed above, will be dependent on the Macropod harvest quota for the year 2010.
