SA Department of Education
Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Tool
Details
Description
The Department for Education - Skills SA is responsible for investment of public funding in subsidised vocational education and training (VET) in South Australia. Individuals can access subsidised VET through Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and Adult Community Education (ACE) providers who have a Funded Activities Agreement (FAA) with Skills SA. Under the FAA all RTOs and ACE providers must assess individuals seeking access to a subsidised training through a prescribed Upfront Assessment of Need process. This process assesses the individual’s suitability, support needs and literacy and numeracy capabilities to ensure early access to learner supports and foundation skills where they are assessed to need them.
Skills SA requires all RTOs and ACE providers to assess a student’s literacy and numeracy skills against the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) generically, using an online assessment tool. The provides the level of detail needed for a literacy and numeracy specialists to interpret the results against a minimum level of capability set by Skills SA and take the needs of the course of choice into consideration.
