Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is requesting submissions from suitably qualified contractors interested in executing the construction of a replacement roof at the
Fitzsimmons Street Reservoir. The roof of the reservoir is constructed from corrugated asbestos cement roof sheeting supported by timber rafters fixed to concrete beams and walls. In the 2009 asbestos audit the asbestos roof sheeting was classed as in ‘fair’ condition and bonded material, however due to the brittle nature of the roof material not the entire roof was
inspected. The roof replacement is part of a capital works program to remove all asbestos. Due to the condition of the material and its importance to safe production of drinking water it
is now scheduled to be replaced.
