QLD Department of Community Safety
QAS Staff Wellness Program
Details
Description
The QAS is trialling a wellness program for up to 250 staff commencing in 2011. The purpose of the trial is to increase the health and fitness of staff that are at risk of becoming, or are already overweight. This is a research trial, which will evaluate the impact of the wellness program, particularly on operational staff.
This is not a traditional, one-dimensional corporate fitness model, where fitness trainers provide substantive face-to-face training to participants. It is envisaged that the successful provider will manage the program at ‘arms distance’, via an on-line system where participants are largely responsible for carrying out their own individual exercise regimes. Participants will come from a range of locations across Brisbane and the Gold Coast areas, and will work a variety of hours – both shifts and day work. The nature of operational ambulance shift work means that scheduling group and individual fitness sessions will be challenging.
