Sale of the Southern Regional Cemetery Trust

The Tasmanian Government announced its intention to sell the Southern Regional Cemetery Trust (the Business) in the 2007 State Budget. The Business is currently wholly owned by the State of Tasmania. It is the largest provider of cremation, burial, memorial gardens, crypts and related services in Tasmania. The Business owns and operates the historic Cornelian Bay Cemetery, the Kingston Lawn Cemetery and the Eastern Shore Cemetery, as well as the Hobart Crematorium situated at Cornelian Bay. The three sites are well developed and maintained and strategically situated to meet the future needs of the greater Hobart area. The Business enjoys the strong brand value of the Cornelian Bay Cemetery and its close ties to the community. It has also received an environmental award for its innovative Bushland Burial development at the Kingston site. The Burial and Cremation Act 2002 will continue to apply to the business following sale. Parties who have an interest in considering an acquisition of the Business should lodge an expression of interest with the State’s Sale Adviser as soon as possible, and by no later than 4pm AEST on Tuesday, 12 February 2008.
