SA Department for Environment and Water
Flinders Ranges Fauna Reintroduction Project Coordinator
Details
Description
A supplier with experience in all facets of translocating wild caught marsupials is required to sort out collaborative relationships, legislative requirements, and operational details associated with translocating and monitoring 2 native fauna species to be reintroduced to Flinders Ranges National Park. The project supplier will manage three translocations scheduled to occur in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and associated monitoring requirements to 2018. The supplier will also be responsible for analysis and review of information generated during the project in scientific journal format to enhance the publicly available reintroduction and translocation literature.
The project will reintroduce wild caught Western Quolls and Brush-tailed Possums into Flinders Ranges National Park. These reintroductions will be guided by detailed translocation and operational plans that have been developed during 2013. The release will involve a trial of 40 animals of each species in 2014 with further releases of 40+ animals of each species over the following two years. Release areas include Wilpena Pound and areas between the Heysen and ABC Ranges. A number of universities are likely to be involved in research projects (coordinated separately to this procurement process) to improve information needed for evaluating the success of the translocations and their potential interactions with extant fauna and flora in the area.
