High Pressure and High Temperature Piping System.
Details
Description
An engineering company, experienced in the design of high pressure and high temperature piping systems is required to design a system to deliver heated air at high pressure from the Combustion Test Facility (CTF) to the Infrared Suppression Test Facility (IRSTF) at DSTO Melbourne. The heated air will be used to simulate the efflux from military gas turbine engines in experimental investigations of Infrared (IR) suppression concepts.
DSTO is conducting a research, development and engineering (RD&E) program to (i) assess available IR signature suppression solutions and, (ii) possibly, design, develop and demonstrate an IR suppression solution for the ADF fleet of helicopters.
The current phase of this RD&E program is the Concept Definition and Design phase. The main objectives of this phase are to conduct scale model and full scale measurements of IR signature suppression design concepts and associated trade-off studies between different suppression designs. Risk management of different design concepts will be an integral part of this phase.
Testing of suppression systems at close to full size will provide essential flow field and IR radiation measurements of the systems.
In broad terms, this contract involves the design of a piping system to deliver heated air at high pressure and at high mass flows from the CTF to the IRSTF at DSTO Melbourne.
The heated air will be used to simulate the efflux from a typical ADF helicopter engine to test and simulate aspects of approximately full scale infrared suppressors and suppression concepts for generic tail boom style helicopters.
