Description

The Department of Water (DoW) has an extensive network of groundwater monitoring bores throughout the state of Western Australia. The monitoring bore network is an integral part of the groundwater management undertaken by the DoW, and is linked to the licensing of groundwater use throughout the state. Many of these bores are located in state forest, regional parks, crown land, road reserves and freehold land.

The DoW is carrying out an ongoing maintenance program of its Groundwater Assessment Network (GWAN) monitoring bores and specific project bores across Western Australia. The program will update the DoW’s network through replacing unserviceable and deteriorating bores and upgrading the head works and improving access to existing bores.

The DoW has employed the services of drilling contractors to install replacement groundwater monitoring bores at a number of sites in Yeal, Yanchep and Pinjar. Many sites are located on soft sand and will therefore require the upgrading of the existing sand access tracks to compacted crushed limestone, as well as the installation of crushed limestone ‘drill pads’ to provide drilling contractors with a safe and easily accessible working site to base the drilling rig, within these areas.. Construction period April - August 2013.
