Overview

Yugul Mangi Development Aboriginal Corporation (YMDAC) is the representative body of the seven clans and four semi-moieties of South-East Arnhem land, referred to as the Yugul Mangi people. YMDAC is the local decision-making body and represents these communities' cultural, social, and economic interests. Its office is based in Ngukurr, located 331 kilometres southeast of Katherine on the Roper Highway.

YMDAC successfully operates several community enterprises and programs, including NTG Housing Repair and Maintenance works, the Darlala Motel, Concrete Production, Ngukurr General Store, Employment Services CDP Program and over 30 social services programs.

YMDAC has been awarded grant funding from the National Indigenous Australians Agency and Roper Gulf Regional Council to co-design and construct the Ngukurr Oval and Sporting Precinct Development (Project). This project will deliver a community-designed, purpose-built facility on Lot 340, Ngukurr Community, in the Northern Territory.

The facility will create opportunities for local employment through a self-sustaining community-owned enterprise that will celebrate culture and provide a venue for community festivals, events, cultural celebrations, sporting competitions and training programs, as well as the delivery of social programs.

A project steering committee has been formed with representatives of the clan groups to ensure local decision-making is prioritised. A community consultation and design process has commenced to facilitate the co-design process and ensure the community's voice is represented through the final designs of the facility and throughout each project phase.

The final project scope will be developed through consultation in line with community priorities. To develop a budget for the grant application, the following facilities were included to provide a cost estimate: a clubhouse, change rooms, outdoor stage, undercover basketball court, function rooms, offices, kitchen, kiosk, sheltered bus stop, car park, and grandstand. YMDAC envisages the project scope will be similar, with some changes expected.

YMDAC prioritises local Aboriginal employment, one of the corporation's priority areas. Where possible, all available positions will be filled by local Aboriginal people. Local Indigenous employment outcomes will be a mandatory component of any procurement process.

Components of this project will be advertised through our public Gateway page, where suppliers can register their interest in the work package. YMDAC will then seek to conduct a direct tender process for the most suitable EOI applicants.

We anticipate a project completion date of mid-late 2026.
