South East Water is one of Melbourne’s three state-owned metropolitan water retailers. We provide water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services for residents and businesses in Melbourne’s south east, located in the state of Victoria, Australia.

The Multix data logger was developed by South East Water (SEW) to support its strategic objective of being a digital utility. We developed a robust, inexpensive and low powered pulse-counting device that attaches to analogue water meters to gather information from the SEW water network. The device uses standardised NB-IoT communications platform and is designed to log the volume of water flowing through analogue water meters which can be uploaded to the cloud platform. Multix data loggers will typically be installed on larger meters that won’t be replaced by integrated digital meters.

South East Water has already installed 100 dataloggers as a part of a technology trial to test and validate the performance of the device in the field. The success of the trial has led to the future deployment of the remaining ~4,850 devices within SEW network.

SEW intend to award a Works Contract to a Contractor to install up to 4,900 units of Multix Dataloggers on existing analogue meters (50mm meters) in SEW’s network.

SEW expect the Works to be completed within 12 months period with completion date no later than 30 May 2023.
