Description

The State Government has agreed to commit $1 million to a major tourism development at the historic Low Head Pilot Station precinct. The Commonwealth Government has also announced a contribution of $500 000 to the same project. The Pilot Station/Light House heritage precinct, with buildings dating back to 1834, has development potential and is in need of a management and planning model to bring together the many different stakeholders and issues. The development on the site will ultimately be a vibrant tourism attraction relevant to market demand and generating revenues to support future development, focused on the site's heritage and natural assets and linked with other attractions along the Tamar River. The Low Head Precinct Steering Committee has been appointed by the State Government to put in place a development strategy for the site and in partnership with key stakeholders, particularly the George Town Council, has produced a broard development concept. Tenders are now sought from suitably qualified and experience consultants to enhance the proposed development strategy and facilitate its implementation. The principal task is to progress the proposed development from being strategyconcepts through to construction completion by undertaking appropriate tasks both as a primary consultant and through the appointment and supervision of sub consultants, tenderers and contractors. The consultant will in effect be the project manager for the development strategy and its phase one implementation.
