South West Step up Step Down

The MHC seeks to establish a contract with a suitably skilled and experienced organisation, to deliver the non-clinical psychosocial support services with people accessing the South West step up/step down service and undertake the day to day operational management of the facility in Bunbury, Western Australia.

The clinical support component of the service will be provided by the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – South West.

The combination of psychosocial and in reach clinical support services are provided within a residential style setting and are directed at delivering:

• Step-up services that provides additional support for a person to manage a deterioration in their mental health, but where an admission to an inpatient facility is not warranted; and
• Step-down services that provides a person, who no longer requires acute inpatient care, additional supports that will assist them to re-establish themselves in the community.

Step up/step down services primary objectives are to:

• Provide short-term mental health care, in a residential setting;
• Promote recovery; and
• Reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.

This is achieved through the provision of a comprehensive suite of programs and activities that are centred on delivering the individualised supports that improve a person’s symptom control; encourage the use of personal abilities and assist them to return to their usual social environment. The service is provided within a framework of recovery and rehabilitation and is delivered by a combination of psychosocial and in reach clinical support and activities.
