Description
The dam on Bernacchis Creek, Maria Island was overtopped during a rare flood event in December 2009. A failure of the downstream embankment occurred. Repair of the downstream embankment of the dam and upgrading of the spillway to current design standards is required. The crest of the dam also requires raising to incorporate a greater depth of flow through the spillway prior to overtopping. Removal of the current bridge over the spillway and reinstating a pedestrian crossing at a higher level without any obstruction to the spillway weir.
