Provision of a Collection Management System

The Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is in search of a Collection Management System (CMS) to enhance the management, accessibility, and analysis of physical geoscientific materials. This system should be secure, scalable, and user-friendly, supporting the goals of the Geoscience Data Transformation Program (GDTP). The GDTP, a five-year initiative committed to digitizing the complete collection of geoscience data held by the Western Australian Government and industry, aims to transform these collections into intelligent, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data. Key objectives of the GDTP include: Ensuring data is accessible both manually and through automated, machine-readable formats.Integrating comprehensive big data solutions with the semantic web.Providing real-time or near-real-time data delivery.Enabling self-service data access.Modernizing and harmonizing historical data collections.Maintaining platform and software neutrality in data delivery. The CMS will track physical geoscientific samples-from collection through analysis to documentation and storage-enhancing accessibility and management. These samples, primarily geological materials like rocks, minerals, fossils, or volumes of unconsolidated materials such as regolith or soil, are collected either directly from the field or from field-collected materials (e.g., drill cores) for archiving, analysis, and research purposes..
