Coordination of Major Integrated Projects for the Wet Tropics and Burdekin regions

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) has released an Expression of Interest (EOI) to gauge the availability and capability of individuals or groups working in Great Barrier Reef catchments to coordinate the design of two major integrated projects. A brief snapshot of the major projects is provided below.

One project will be located in the Tully and/or Johnstone catchments of the Wet Tropics region and the other project will be in the Bowen-Broken-Bogie catchment of the Burdekin region.

Each project is being offered as a separate opportunity. If a Supplier would like to quote for both projects, an EOI must be completed for each region. Following the EOI process, shortlisted Suppliers will be provided with Invitations to Offer (ITO) requesting they describe how they intend to coordinate the design stage of major projects.

Snapshot of major integrated projects
The aim of these projects is to trial and deliver a range of coordinated actions and closely monitor progress in achieving land management practice changes, economic benefits for landholders and pollutant load reductions. The focus will be on reducing sediment, nutrient and pesticide loads from agricultural lands, however opportunities to engage other land uses will not be excluded if water quality benefits can be identified.

A key component of these projects will be to closely involve landholders and local stakeholders in the design and delivery of actions for their area to ensure they’re practical and regionally tailored. It will also be important for projects to take a landscape, risk based approach in identifying project areas and designing a program of works.

It should be noted the EOI and ITO and process is intended to identify preferred Suppliers to coordinate the design and potentially implementation of each project. As part of the design stage, it is expected they will establish partnerships with relevant organisations that can support the delivery of specific activities throughout the life of major projects. They will also need to work with other organisations to support the monitoring and evaluation of major projects.
