Description
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is within the federal government portfolio of the Department of Communications. The ACMA is responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, the internet, radiocommunications and telecommunications.
As part of its responsibilities the ACMA manages the Cybersmart program, a national cybersafety education program, which includes targeted information and awareness raising campaigns for children, teens, parents and schools.
The key objective of the Cybersmart program is to equip Australian children and young people with skills and knowledge to be safe online.
The Cybersmart program aims to:
·Inform children, young people, parents, teachers and library staff about cybersafety issues
·Educate audiences through engaging and credible information, useful resources and practical advice
·Empower children and young people to be safe, responsible and aware online
A key component of the Cybersmart program is its Cybersmart Helpline which provides a counselling and support service to children and teens who are upset about something that has happened online.
