Description
For the Census the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will require a large volume of mainly printed materials (approximately 1,900 tonnes) to be packed into purpose designed and built cardboard boxes and then delivered to, and returned from, various locations spread throughout Australia, including Census Management Units (CMUs), State Despatch Centres (SDCs), a Central Holding Centre (CHC), and approximately 3,600 Area Supervisors.The ABS envisages that the Logistics operation will include a Central Packing Centre that will pack printed items and other materials for the Census field operations from August 2010 to May 2011After the Census is taken, the materials will be retrieved from CMUs and Area Supervisors and forwarded under secured conditions, via the SDCs and a Central Holding Centre, to the ABS Data Processing Centre (DPC), which will be located in a capitol city on the east coast of Australia between September 2011 to November 2011.The Logistics operation is time sensitive and performed under strict security conditions.
