Description
Queensland Urban Utilities is a statutory body created by the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act.
The Act formed part of the Queensland Government's water reform program in 2008 and 2009. It provided for the separation and transfer of the retail and distribution functions for water supply and sewerage services from Brisbane City Council, Ipswich City Council, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Scenic Rim Regional Council and Somerset Regional Council to the Central SEQ Distributor-Retailer Authority trading as Queensland Urban Utilities.
Queensland Urban Utilities is required to comply with specific public sector legislation, standards and policies, including those for Internal Audit Committees.

Queensland Urban Utilities currently has approximately 1,300 staff members (including contractors, agency staff, and temporary staff) and is organised into seven business units:
• Office of the CEO including Legal Counsel and Office of the Executive Manager
• Operations
• Retail
• People and Safety
• Finance, Risk and Procurement
• Strategy and Growth
• Information Services
